@Amanda Risi: Thanks - I'm really honoured my post inspired you!! I don't think 27 Dinners have made it to Durbs yet but I suggest you drum up a few people who would be keen to go and tell the organisers you have the support and want a dinner! :)

Go to the site and click on Contact to get hold of them.

@Mike Stopforth & Melissa - yet again, you guys rock!!

Hi Heidi Snowgoose, ... Thanks for saying out loud some of the thoughts in my head! I appreciate your wisdom and I think it's time.. time for *Sages* to act with *Zeal*: to put the word out. Increasing our reach, our community, our "tribe", .. connecting with our mentors worldwide and introducing the uninitiated globally, not only in South Africa.. You've inspired me to continue along the grassy track today with a reed-whip in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other! Cheers and thanks for the introduction to 27Dinners (when will Durban North be included!).

I've heard zealots and sages, and degrees of both in between, wax lyrical at conferences and events about the social media, Web 2.0, New Media thing for some time now. I have admittedly floated between the two extremes, sometimes because of circumstances and audience.

But I have noticed this: those who err on the sage side of things seem to be making more money... if that's a measure of success?

Love it, well written and well put.

I think you're right and the best part of my working day is chatting to marketing and communications professionals who are not in the 'geek' space. The lightbulb moments we share are the reason I continue to try and educate on the basics like RSS and matching content to social media channels. I was a non-web non-tech marketing professional once and I can't afford to forget that.

It's got a lot to do with sharing ideas and helping people to explore new avenues. Your point on 27 and similar meet-ups is very valid - we should be encouraging more marketing and brand managers to attend who are not in the web space....it makes the conversation more interesting and means both sides learn :)
