Hi Sheila,

Is he indigenous? (i.e. did the school children find him or buy him from apet shop) If he is indigenous, you mustn't keep him. They are endangered and need to be re-released into the wild. You should take him to FreeMe - they will be able to diagnose him and rehabilitate him.

Go to http://www.freemewildlife.org.za and they will help

2 months ago we wer given 2 chameleons to take care of which were taken away for school children. Both had head injuries, which we were not sure if the children did this or if they may have been attacked by the Indian Minors, prior the children finding them. They are definitly 2 different types of chameleon as well. Anyway the smaller of the 2, healed and has since left on his own accord into the garden. The bigger of the 2 is still with us and we feed him meal worms, and criekets. Although he definitly prefers the meal worms. My concern is that we are not sure if he can see. He does have eye movement but we are not convinced.
If we put him back on to the plant where he has been staying fpr 2 months, he just stays put. If we put him onto the grass he does walk but is inclinded to walk into things. Is there at Vet in the Pretoria area who can tell us if he can see.

I have 3 rats and people give me the "eye" often, but owning a lizzard is still way over my head. Maybe its because I don't know enough about them.
